The pitch

Rent A Goat appeared on Season 5, Episode 5 of ABC’s Shark Tank. Founder Matthew Richmond, joined by veteran goat rancher Mike Canaday, asked the Sharks for $150,000 in exchange for 25% equity — valuing the young goat-grazing company at $600,000.

To prove the concept, the team did something few pitches dare: they brought live goats onto the set, letting the animals graze real brush while the Sharks watched the service work in real time.

A memorable demo, a national stage

It was a perfect encapsulation of the business — you don’t have to imagine what goat grazing looks like when the goats are eating in front of you. The segment introduced millions of viewers to the idea that hungry herds could replace mowers, herbicides, and hand crews.

Whatever happened with the deal, the appearance cemented Rent A Goat as the goat-grazing company Americans had actually seen on television.
